Sony 3D TV DongleSony Australia is doing its best to claim back some of the market share it has lost over recent years to the likes of Samsung and LG in the consumer TV market.  Over the past year Sony’s share of the market has dropped by 35% which is a huge loss for a year.

Sony is planning to launch one 3D model in July 2010 but will be pushing the ability of its 2D models to be converted to 3D using a special Sony 3d Dongle.

The Sony 3D Dongle will be added into a proprietary port on the back of the TV and add the required 3D functionality. It may well be an attractive option for people who are not willing to fork out for 3DTV at premium launch prices who will want to add this down the line.

As part of the same announcement Sony Australia also revealed they would be launching ‘Bravia Internet Video’ which is an IPTV service offering fifteen channels of content including some 3D content in the future. The service would be open to all internet users but will use up download allowance which could quickly chew up monthly broadband download allowances.  If monthly allowances were over shot then paying for extra content could become outrageously expensive.
