In just three years, NBNCo the owners of the National Broadband Network or NBN for short, expect to have the Tasmanian portion of its network completely rolled out by 2015.
The contract awarded to Visionstream, who has been selected by NBNCo to roll out its network in Tasmania stipulates that the fixed portion of the NBN network, including Fibre to the Home connections, are to be completed by 2015 and the subsequent Wireless and Satellite services are also expected to be ready in 2015.
The commitment by NBNCo in Tasmania will certainly secure jobs in the short term for contract workers skilled in telecommunications, though the previous NBN site releases in Midway Point, Smithton and Scottsdale had apparently seen poor take-up rates during the first few months after build.
