iiNet has acquired TransACT in a deal which firmly cements iiNet as Australia’s 2nd largest DSL service provider.
The acquisition increases iiNet’s presence in Canberra and Regional Victoria, and a HFC fibre network, similar to those run by Optus and Telstra in selected metro areas. It also gives iiNet some key government contracts.
Its unsure at this stage whether iiNet plans to integrate TransACT as it is doing with Netspace and AAPT’s residential division, although this might prove more challenging given the difference in network TransACT runs, HFC fibre vs. DSL.
What does this mean if you’re a TransACT customer? Probably not much right away, as iiNet have indicated the TransACT management will stay on post-sale. In the long term though, TransACT customers might come to enjoy the high level of customer service and great range of Broadband Plans that iiNet offer.
